Hello fellow xbhpians!
I have the pulsar 220f 2012 october model.
Have clocked about 45000kms totally.
I'm really looking out for some really good tyre options for front and back. (Cost is not important)
I really ride hard and take fast corners as I really love cornering.
Below is my review of the tyres I've used.
STOCK:
The stock tyres zapper fs in the front was pretty good , did the job well not great but sufficient.
Rear zapper c was ok ish. But it wasn't holding the corners as it was really sliding out of line. After about 20000kms it was useless as it used to skid under light breaking and rains even though it had about 40% to 45% tyre left.
When the bike had munched about 29000 kms, i changed to michelin pilot sporty in the front and mrf mogrip meteor at the rear.(STOCK SIZE. 90/90 FRONT & 120/80 REAR).
Review :
FRONT :
Michelin pilot sporty 90/90: it was really great for about 500 kms but after that it is a complete BULLSHIT package !!
The tyre looses traction easily even after warming it up. (Warm up:riding continuously for 100 kms at triple digit speeds.)
Slides like crazy.
Very poor braking. Worst wet grip I've ever ridden on any 2 wheeler.
ZERO cornering ability as it looses traction very easily.
I guess it's a hard hard compound.cause I've used the tyre for more than 15k kms and the tread is used only 15% to 20%, so 80%tread life remaining !!!
I've fallen many times while cornering because there is like ZERO Traction.
Even straight line traction is bad.
Overall it's a very bad tyre for any performance/sports bike.
I would suggest everyone to stay away from it. I really hate this tyre.
PROS : NOTHING GOOD, MAYBE GOOD FOR A MIDDLE CLASS UNCLE ON SOME SPLENDOR OR VICTOR FOR COMMUTING IN CITY AS IT HAS EXCELLENT TYRE MILEAGE.
REAR :
MRF mogrip meteor 120/80 :
It's a button tyre pattern. Very grippy in offroading conditions no doubt about it.
First 2500 kms was a bliss, great traction, great wet grip, very good braking, great cornering ability: used to stay in line even when scraping the foot pegs.
It's after about 5000 kms it showed it's true colours - All the above I've said was gone.
Only after warming up the tyre , it had ok ish grip and cornering ability.
After 10000 kms, the tyre was a waste in terms of on road performance. Looses traction under hard braking, low traction while cornering, bad wet grip.
Tyre tread left - about 50%
PROS :
Never gave up while offroading TILL DATE. (Wet and dry)
Suggested for any offroad lovers. As the tyre is a bliss for offroading. Its really very grippy for offroads.
Now I'm looking for some really good tyres for my bike.
Requirements : good straight line stability, Should handle fast and sharp corners.
I tour a lot so I need tyre mileage, need to last for 15000 kms on a set of tyres.(need not last more than 17000kms)
Must be able to handle a little off-road, cause I live in India ;-)
Would prefer stock size, but I'm okay for upgradable size.
Please suggest me on this !!
Tyres in my mind:
front : stock zapper fs, fy1 used on r15 V2, MRF masseter, pirelli diablo rosso (if available for the suitable size)
Rear: Michelin pilot street radial 130/70, pirelli sport demon, MRF masseter , Pirelli diablo rosso (if available in 130 section)
