Might be. As you've said the tread pattern of the tire itself. But, if that were the case, it should be the case with every users. Do get back on what the dealer has to say about it. It might be tire defect or just a tread pattern that your bike doesn't like or a combination of both is all what I could think of at the moment.

In the market for a new front tyre for my 220. What are the good options in the market these days for the 90/90-17 and 100/80-17 sizes? I am trying not to go back to stock Zapper FS. And sadly all the nice options are in the 110/70 size which don't fit on the 220's narrow rims.

Currently running the Zapper FQ 80/100-17.

Try the Zapper FY1 for the front - 90/80-17. It just grips and grips, have been discussed a lot and is widely known, wont type more for it .

Both R15 V1 (80/90) and V2 (90/80) tyres are great, but they sidewall profile is quite less for the 220 and thus making it more prone to alloy bends. Hence I'm slightly skeptical for putting these on for "my" kind of use.

I'm good with the tyre as long as it holds at least as good as the stock tyre in on/off road and wet conditions, else its just best to go back to stock.

The CEAT Zoom XL 90/90-17. Better grip off road (and broken asphalt). Good grip in the dry and grip at par in the wet. The downside is, the tyre is much heavier than the stock and makes our 'ultra-quick' handling motorcycle rather sluggish! And this is big negative.

I don't mind because i took a hacksaw and chopped off my fairing! So now it is a nakedstein Very good for city and getting off the beaten path!

I had no idea CEAT offered the zoom xl in 90/90-17 (you sure about the size?) . It would perfectly complement my 120/90-17 Grip XL at the back.

Yup sure of the size, i have it on my bike! And 2-3 220s around where i live have seen my bike and switched to the same tyre.

You have an upsized tyre at the rear? How does it work on the 220?

Its not an upsize per se, I've been running the 120/90 size since 2009 now. Its just an increase in the sidewall height, so that translates into taller gearing, so better highway cruising, more FE, more top speed, plus the taller profile soaks up bad/no roads really well.

I can vouch for this tyre because I am using it in my bike since 2k kms. Better than MRF Zapper FS in all conditions especially wet and off-road.

The zapper FY1 90/80/17 is exceptional tyre at the price point in all conditions .
Tested on my previous 220 it provide awesome grip in all conditions.
220's rim is very thin and this tyre is a round profile tyres fits really good and provide good cornering capabilities as well.

Thanks for the inputs guys, I did not go for the R15 tyres 90/80 or 80/90 even though they are gripper, the lower side wall height is a risk on Bangalore roads because I don't slow down for potholes and speed breakers most of the time. Also, it runs a higher risk of bending the rims on off-roads.

I did find the 90/90 CEAT, but it was from an older 2016 manufacturing date and I did not want to go for it even though tyres do stay fine for much longer (6 years is the shelf life) than that. But I was not too sure about how they had been stored and was skeptical.

Feels good in a way to be back to stock after almost 8 years. The 90/90 profile is definitely the best profile for the bike, after years of being on 100/80 and 80/100 tyres which give it a slightly more aggressive V profile make the bike more chuckable, but don't offer the same kind of overall feel as the stock 90/90 profile. Sigh!

The best tyre in this 90/90-17 profile was the unaffordable Bridgestone Battlax BT-45 which a friend of mine was running briefly back in 2008, but I did manage to get my hands on the IRC WildFlare WF-920 which is the best tyre I've used on my bike till date.
