    • Re: Tyres

I use Bajaj Caliber everyday for my office commute. It has a MRF Nylongrip tyre on front which goes too soft while riding it as if there is no air in it. Due to this when I am trying to stop the bike I dont get any idea of how many more distance the tyre would cover before stopping. The front tyre was changed 6 months back and till now I have done around 6000 kms on it. Any suggestion for this issue. Is it a normal phenomenon or should I be changing the tyres.

Friends, i would be getting a Yamaha YZF R3 soon and i wanted to swap the MRFs with better rubber like Pirelli/Metzelers in Bangalore. Does anybody know of a dealer in Bangalore who can exchange the MRFs for Pirelli/Metzelers? Any pointers would be really helpful.

          Hi friends.

I found a website with tyre size calculator that gives us a side by side comparison of tyre sizes in mm, percentile, speedo difference etc. You can input the tyre sizes of your choice and get the results. Check it out. I'm sure it will provide a very good insight.

          • R15 version 1 rear tyre. In desparate need.

I have been looking for the rear tyre of my R15v1, the Zapper S 100/80 17 but have been so far unable to locate it any where near by. I am currently in Hassan, Karnataka and have checked out all near by districts till Mysore. The MRF dealers tell me that they would get back to me as soon as they get the tyres but apparently, even they are unable to get any. The rear tyre is pretty old and is getting punctured every other week.

I went through all relevant tyre threads in the section but none of them suggest a replacement for R15 v1 rear tyre with at-least reasonable amount of grip. Please help me out. I am in desperate need.

PS: Am willing to go down to Bangalore to get the tyre, if only I could be certain that they have it but none of the dealers I contacted have it.

Stock tires maybe really difficult to find. I suggest you try for a different tire with similar spec.

Hello everybody I am not sure if it's the right thread to discuss but recently I had this incident in Pune.
A rider & pillion told me that there is less air I stopped exactly at the location where there was a puncturewala but I wanted to check myself till then he started filling air & he replied that you cannot fill air as it's a puncture I insisted that you will fill air I will remove the puncture later but he did not so I left from there a few meters ahead another puncture wala replied the same no the tyre was flat so I had to remove 6 punctures.
Now my question is he showed me glass pieces can they be pierced inside in a tyre so quick & after 6 punctures which costed me ₹600 will this result in tyre wear fast? Till date there was no puncture, done 16K tubeless on Trigger. I'm pretty sure it was planned.

At 16k kms and 6 punctures, I would advise you change your tires. I was frugal and continued till 22K kms. But it is not safe; your mileage will drop, tires will lock during hard braking and handling will be difficult.

If you replace with OEMs, they will cost < 4K. But it will repay itself in terms of safety and mileage :-)
When I'm on the road, I'm indestructible. No one can stop me... but they try.

                        • Review of MRF zapper on a Cbr250r

This is the review of mrf zapper-s (140/70 r17) for cbr250r.

So it all started when My rear contigo started showing end of its life at about 14k on odo. Although i am not into burnouts and all so i was expecting a bit more from it.

But somehow i feel that there was some defect in that tyre coz during this span i faced more than 25 punctures on it whereas contigo on the front was still intact with zero puncture.
Also i was very much disappointed by its grip and there was significant difference in the quality of front and rear tyre.
So i was eagerly waiting to get rid of my rear contigo.

My priority was stock size with good grip.
After a lot of r&d on internet and forums i shortlisted michelin pilot street radial which was costing me around 5500 INR in my city.. Initially i was very curious about this tyre but after enquiring with retailer i came to know that there is no warranty on it since it was an imported product. (dont know if he was trying to fool me but that was hard to believe)

Also some of my friends advised me not to go for michelin because road conditions in my city are very poor and possibility of tyre getting damaged much before its expected life span cant be ruled out. [emoji16]

All this forced me to rethink about it and finally i shortlisted ceat zoom and mrf zapper.. Both were costing roughly same.
After doing some manual inspection i decided mrf for following reasons

                          1. There wasn't much info and review available about ceat.

                          2. On checking out manually it felt on heavier side

                          3. There was very inconsistency in prices among various retailers

                          4. There was much more peer support for MRF

                          5. Now the company itself is stock fitting MRFs on new batches of CBR

The mrf zapper s 140/70 17 was quoted around 3200 inr but after some negotiation with the dealer its costed me 3000 inr including fitting.

Now comes the most important part of this long post

                          PERFORMANCE

So All those who are coming from continentals you are going to find a peace in it. The day i installed it i did a lot of twisties and zigzag and was enjoying it like never before.. Probably due to its rounder profile.

All in all i can say that the dry grip of these tyres is quite good but i have noticed that they need some warmup for around a km before you start going hard on them.

                          WET GRIP

Although i haven't tested much of its wet grip but it is just ok. You need to be careful.. Quite similar to that of continentals.

                          CONS

Now comes the scary part. These zappers are nightmare if you ever encounter slush. There is absolutely zero grip.
I have been a victim of such near misses two times and somehow managed to escape it. Even slightest of mud along with water makes this tyre go nuts.. You get the feeling as if you are on a treadless tyre.
It was the only time when i missed my continental badly. It reminded me of those posts on forum where some fellow members were absolutely ok with stock contis

                          VERDICT

If you are a daily commuter with occasional highway trips like me and mostly run on tarmac you can blindly go for it mainly because of its nice dry grip and cost effectiveness. (i mean to say its not that costly and has decent life).
It won't disappoint you in that matter.

But if you do some kind of offroading or kind of adventure tourer look for something else.
Probably a Pirelli or michelin is a better choice.
Also you can check out ceat zoom.

And lastly its my appeal to fellow bikers to Ride safely and responsibly. Always remember your limits.
                          (:
                          *peace out*
                          Burn the rubber, they said
it would be fun, they said

And running on low tyre pressure makes the rims more vulnerable to bends. That will put you in a whole new lot of trouble. Better change it now, else use some tyre sealant till you can change it.
