  • 100/90 17 or 100/80 17 rear tyres wanted

So I need to replace the rear tyres on my SZ-RR. Stock is TVS 100/90 17.
I am looking for a medium component (Grippy, yet less puncture prone) tyre.
    Only Tarmac use.

I went to nearby MRF showroom. They had the following
    Zapper C, 100/90 17 TT, INR 2000
    Moto D, 100/90 17, INR 2000
    Meteor 3.00/17 INR 1850

Zapper C was softer than others when I did the finger nail test.
More like a medium component than a Soft/Hard one.
Moto D was definitely Hard component.

    Another dealer had the following
    Continental Conti Go, 100/90 17 , INR 1800
    Michelin Sirac Street, 100/90 17 , INR 2000

Some how Zapper C was the softest.
Michelin Sirac Street is now being manufatured by TVS right ?

What do you experts suggest ?

Sticks to the road like a leech. Probably even better than the Pirelli Sport Demons I had earlier.

Had already posted them in the 200 NS thread, but here you go. Both Pilot Streets. Front is a 110/70 17 and rear140/70 17.

Hi Guys, I recently change to tubeless tyres in my ZMA.Tomorrow going to install slime. Once confusion, should I put in front also? have heard that putting slime in front create wobbling.

I need to replace my rear stock TVS tyres(100/90 17) on my SZ-RR. Its still brand new (<5000 kms)
But I had a fishtailing incident just after a drizzle.Scared the hell out of me.

I found the following in a nearby MRF showroom.

              Zapper C - 100/90 17 - 2000 INR
              Moto D - 100/90 17 - 2000 INR

Also found the following with another nearby dealer
              Conti Go -100/90 17 - 1800 INR
Michelin Sirac Street - 2000 INR

I found the Zapper C softer (finger nail test) than Moto - D.
Conti & Michelin weren't better than Zapper C.

Strangely there was a Michelin pilot sporty for the front, which was harder than the Sirac Street for the rear.

I think my current TVS has 2 problems - Hard component & Contact area is very less.

So I need Medium Component (Enough Gripp, but not puncture prone)& Flattest contact area (though I don't want fatter than 100).
I don't want dual purpose as I would be using it only on tarmac & I want good cornering abilities.
I would like it tubed type itself like the stock ones.
Also easy availability is a Concern.
              I living near Chalakudy, Kerala

Should I go for Zapper C itself or should check out Zapper Q.
Zapper Vyde & Zapper S is not under consideration due to puncture prone

I think the gripp/stickiness of a tyre is based on the following in that order
              1. Component
              2. Contact Area in straight line driving
              3. Thread pattern (especially for wet gripp)

              Please help.

From the above options that you listed, I would go for the Michelin Sirac Street without a second thought. Good grip in all conditions with good durability. The MRFs would come after that. Wouldn't touch the ContiGo with a ten-foot pole unless you want to relieve your previous experience.

You do know that Michelin Sirac Street is not the old 'Michelin Sirac' and now is manufactured by TVS(the same people manufacturing the tyres I want to replace). There has been a lot of post regarding this issue in this thread itself.

I'm really confused. I have about this guy replacing his Zapper Q to Ceat Zoom.

Oops, my bad. Forgot that there are two types of Siracs now, crappy and good.

Well, the Zapper C should be good then. If it could certainly handle my old P220, I'm sure it''ll have no problems handling the SR-Z. Of course mine was the softer compound version.

The made in Thailand Pilot Sporty also merits a look.

Michelin is being manufactured by TVS, yes though the brand level and ethos are different. Zapper is a soft compound, just to keep it in perspective, all MOTO series are hard or 75% harder compounds. Zapper C offers good grip, stock 220 tire, call it, kind of all purpose tires, handles both off road and tarmac just as well. VYDE on the other hand is rounder in profile, offers good grip, but prone to punctures, both C and VYDE are same compound albeit slightly different threads.

                      Cheers!

                        Isn't only 120/80 Zapper C a softer compound, while 100/90 is hard compound ?

I'm not sure about the availability of 100/90 in softer compound, but there should not be a drastic difference.

Anyways, I was satisfied with the performance of the Zapper C in all conditions, wet, dry, and off-road. Overall, it was a good tyre. It was shod on the P220.

Compare this to the Contigo shod CBR250 I had prior to my current NS that was simply atrocious in both wet and off-road. It needed just the slightest excuse to sliding around.

For one, it'll have "Made in Thailand" written on it. I think it also has a slight difference in tread design. And others have already written about the performance characteristics in this thread itself: http://www.xbhp.com/talkies/universa...tyres-474.html

Zapper C is "NOT" a hard compound, that'd be lame to question the tire's worthiness. One of my buddies is with MRF and is a very good tire dealer and has good contact with MRF and quite knowledgeable when it comes to tires.

MRF Zapper, the one that comes with most Pulsars are medium compound, meaning, they have a blend of both soft and harder compound for the best of both worlds. You never will get a pure slick tire unlike the Pirelli which costs a bomb and wears faster. Unless you're into track or a frequent diehard corner carver, soft compound isn't recommended for average joe. TVS tires are kinda hard compound, they last a gazillion KMS and don't wear that easily, reason? Harder compounds wear slower but don't provide good grip. And so does DUNLOP GEOCRUISER series.

                              Cheers!
