                    • hi all.. i have been facing problems with fall in tyre pressure for almost a month now.. recently I found out that the air is leaking between rim and the tyre wall.. what is causing it?? the tyre shop guy told me the rim is bent but I cant see even minor damage to it.. asked another tyre guy who told he can fix bent alloys by using some method of heating.. told me it'll cost 600bucks and I would also have to get it painted.. what do you guys think the real problem is?? Could the rim be really bent?? Or is the tyre dislocated somehow & refitting the tyre would solve it?? Or some problem with sidewall of tyre or beading?? I am not inclined to fit a tube but I really want some help regarding this..

                      • Hi all,
See my FZ's stock rear tyre (140/60-17) is totally gone within 12000km, and now I am planning to go for a new tyre, and considering the followings, kindly suggest which one will be good in terms of long life, value for money & mostly less friendly with nails, my options are as follows:

                        1) Zapper C 120/80-17- Rs. 2200.00 (My choice)
                        2) Zapper Vyde 130/70-17 = Rs. 2600.00
                        3) R15 V2 rear 130/70-17 = Rs. 3000.0

                        Thanks in advance.

I got zapper VYDE 120/80 a year back for Rs 2700 from the MRF tyre dealer near Tata Centre park street, opposite to Birla Taramandal,
doing good till now as compared to stock ( since it lasted me only 1600 kms ).
Also where are you getting it of 130/70 size & that too @ 2600 ONLY.

Cant comment about others but R15 V2.0 rear tyre (MRF rev Z S 130 70 17) will not suit your requirements of long life and less prone to nails/ punctures. Since it is a soft compound tyre, it is the most vulnerable to punctures (have had 3 punctures myself over 5 months) and will not last as long as medium/ hard compound tyres. It is way ahead of others in terms of road grip and control though

The problem need not necessarily be with your rim.It can be a faulty tyre too.I suggest you take a near puncture wallah, Remove the tyre from the rim.Get the Rim home(Thats why i said a "near puncture wallah") and give it a thorough brushing with soap and a scrubber especially where the tyre seats on the rim. Also check is the rim is properly round.Make sure all the debris are cleared off .Take the rim back and get the tyre fitted back. Then inflate to 35 PSI.Drop the tyre from 4 feet height at different points so that it gets seated properly. Then reduce the pressure to 26 PSI. Use it for a couple of days and see if the pressure is still dropping. If so then its a tyre issue and you have to replace the tyre. This procedure wont cost you more than 50 bucks. And you can rule out the rim bend too.

Note-Before and after you do this,Take some soap solution in a mug and pour is along the rim-tyre junction on both the sides.Leave for a minute. You can then clearly see the area where the air is leaking because it will be full of froth!
