Where are you getting these in India? I ask as my friend has a Gt650R and we were talking about tire options for him and everything is quite atrociously priced at the moment.
Thanks Parth...i read a lot of reviews on the Shinko and the only negative is the thread life... apart from it the tire is good and i do mostly commuting and occasional touring ...

I am planning to get them from Bachoo Motors..

    • Tyre gurus please lay to rest few queries of mine.

      1) Is it advised to put new tyres on slightly bent rims with out it being straightened out?

      2) Can a tubeless tyre which has been converted to tube type, and has tube type puncture patch work be converted back to tubeless with just a tubeless valve?

      3) How much does a tubeless tyre valve cost? and how should it be put on the rim correctly? the procedure.

      4) What basic amenities is required to mount a tubeless tyre properly on a rim? (high capacity high pressure compressed air? wheel bench?)

Your answers will be a lifesaver. Thanks

      • Hi guys!
Finally got hold of a Zapper Vyde (120/80-17) in Andheri West after a long search and Zapper-fs(90/90-17).
Zapper vyde are very rare and everybody seems to keep on zapper-c in mumbai. My search has finally been successful.
If anybody is searching for this tyre in the suburbs can go to JP Tyres its on the Linking Road in Andheri West near Star Bazaar opposite Kamal Car AC.
        Cheers!

            If tube type, yes. Tubeless-no.

            2) Can a tubeless tyre which has been converted to tube type, and has tube type puncture patch work be converted back to tubeless with just a tubeless valve?
Yes, since the rim is meant for tubeless basically&the tube with the patch will be thrown out as it will not be required when using the tyre as tubeless. But as you are already aware, the valve needs to be changed.

            3) How much does a tubeless tyre valve cost? and how should it be put on the rim correctly? the procedure.
Less than 100 bucks&any Tyre shop will do it for you.

Yes, right-conventional fitting may bend the alloy&will surely damage the paint also.

I should have elaborated more on that query, sorry for the miscommunication.

My front tyre had sustained two punctures (during its course of life) when it was being run as tubeless. These were fixed with the tubeless tyre plugs. Then later on when the rim got bent slightly, i converted this wheel into tube type. The tyre wala, removed the earlier puncture plugs and replaced it with tube type patch work on the insides of the tyre, then a tube was put in and thats how its being used for now.

Now if i have to convert this tyre back to tubeless, is it possible? the patch work on the tyre (not the tube, the tube has no punctures) is like the one done for tube type tyres.

Thanks for answering the rest of my queries.

                • Unsolved tire pressure issue

Alright , a challenge for the tire experts :
I have Pirelli Sport Demons for my 220 for the past 7 months. Everything was fine till a month back. Nitrogen in the tires never lost pressure for the entire 6 months.
But then I had a puncture in both the front as well as rear tire. So got them plugged. But the tires are not holding pressure what so ever.
The pressure I keep is 28 front , 32 rear. Over 2 days , the pressure drops to 22 front and 25 rear and stays at that level. I have a good pressure gauge at home which has been pretty accurate.
Got the tires checked over and over again for more punctures but no characteristic bubbling when coated with soapy water. Also , the things that caused the puncture was a very small shard of some metal. I think the valves are also fine because they too got the soap water treatment and apparently no leak.
So what could possibly be going wrong here ? Could there be more of these shards which have become self sealing at low pressures ? Because as I mentioned , the pressure seems to stay at the 20s..

Ok-you mean tyre was patched from the inside!
It will not leak air as it is patched up, but in case it wobbles a lot you may need to change it.

3.I have decided not to buy michilin pilot sporty after reading a lot of reviews pg 430 onwards that the tyre gives superb grip but only lasts about 8k-9k km and gets lots of punctures.
I cant loose time gettting puncture fixed, it must be no hassle i.e push my bike on highway for long distance, frequently its irritation thus dropped the idea of those.

So now I have decided to enquire and find about:
Front: MRF Zapper FS 2.75-17 TT
                      Rear: MRF Zapper C 100/90-17 TT/TL
                      MRF Zapper S 100/80-17 TL
Guys, I am in dilemma now!

1a. The SVC guys tell me that changing the TVS tyres to the R15 will void warranty and also

1b. You cant fit a tubeless tyre of different profile(100/80) on to my present SZ rims. I thought what mattered was the 17" rim size here.

                      2. He says that even if I put TL tyres and valve, there will be air leaks occuring and I would have to put tubes then, instead better to stick to my TVS tryes! (Made no sense, I have almost slipped off the bike from this tyre now).

                      3. Is it advisable to keep front tyre stock as it is i.e TVS make with tube and rear a Zapper S TL for a long time?
I can change both the tyres if needed. what is your suggestion?

                      4. Also do we need to get the balacing done when we change tyres to tubeless?

                      Kindly enlighten me on this.

this is the best practice of all svc's to sell off their products easily.i can guarentee u that changing tyres will not void warranty unless and untill u have done some swingarm mods, tht u obviously dont have to do with the zapper s. So chill and install the tyres let the svc dogs bark, once u need something in warranty, just shoot a email to the regional head and he will do the rest id the svc deny u with warranty.

u can surely do u so, it wont matter unless and until the tyre is too big for the rim, which this one isnt.

                        ke from this tyre now).

wtf, just ignore this moron and get to a good tyre fitting shop, who does fitting with the proper machine not by the desi methods, and get the tyres installed, it wont be an issue. And believe me sticking to bald tvs tyres is not a wise decision or i would say it is a invitation to yamraj.

i will say get both changed at a time if u want to enjoy ur ride to the fullest. Though changing one at a timw wont be a big problem but still why take the risk.

                        4. Also do we need to get the balacing done when we change tyres to tubeless?
leave it upto the fitment shop they will do everything needed, provided it is a good one.
                        Kindly enlighten me on this.
dont get confused, just keep in mind that ur living in india where some minds work more than fuc*ing required which causes unwanted issues. Relax and chill go for it.

                          • Changing the tyre ll not at all affect the warranty
                          • I too fitted the diiferent size 100/90 on my stock 80/100
                          • Ya you can change the back tyre & keep the front stock
                          • There is no need to get balancing again, might be for your satisfaction you ll do

                          • A couple of pages back i posted a query regarding the tyres on our twister. Can you guys please tell me if these tres are due for a change. Reason for asking is that one of my mechanics says that the tyres can last for another 5k km. The bike is primarily used by my dad but whenever i ride it, it feels as if the rear lacking in any sorts of grip.

looking at your tyre that is not reached the wear mark mentioned on pic.
My tyre is also in this same condition when i got changed to new one.
I changed tyre due to lack in grip from the beginning it self
