Hello Guys,
I have an Yamaha SZR and am planning on getting the stock TVS tyres replaced by the time monsoon starts so I still have about 4 months to plan for tyres.
My stock tyre looks like this:
I am basically looking forward for good grip on highway and dusty roads as my present tyre I have felt above 50kmph it doesnt easily slow down.
There seems to be not much choices for me with the 17" rims the only option I see is MRF Zapper C 100/90-17.
Aneesh had recommended me CEAT Vertigo Sport 100/90-17 as a good choice. Anyone care to support and give review about it?
Any other tyre recommendations? I am not looking into costly affair, also do you think a TL is better? As per my research through the threads its good, but many recommended that for my bike a tube tyre is better suited. What do you suggest?
Also do I need to change my front 2.75-17 tyres too to MRF or the TVS is okay? I have only run 2000km till date and maybe cover another 5000km in coming months. So if I can fetch resale value for the tyre now I'll be happy to buy now or if difference is not much i shall wait for 2-3months.Last edited by prajnyan; 12-18-2011, 04:45 AM.There are no short-cuts to any place worth going. Other option for u is 140-70-17 MRF ZAPPER Q. Thats all we have in India, other manufacturers do have sizes but i think its not VFM.
Note:- My friend has been running a stock red CBR with Pirelli SD 140-70-17 and the tyre grips like the tarmac down is her gf

Im nt sure that will the 100-80-17 mrf zapper S (r15's rear tyre) will fit in your rim or not. If it does u cant get anything better, its just pure fun with the tyre no matter what the surface is will post a detailed review on the tyre soon. The price is Rs.1720. It is also a tl option
Now some other options are
1.Mrf zapper c 100-90-17
2.Ceat vertigo 100/90-17
3.Mrf meteor 100-90-17
4.Michellin Pilot sporty 100-90-17 (this one has some really good reviews, refer to the pics above and check out the post by rahul barik )
5.Michellin M45's will make ur bike heavy and it will only be good for off road.
Note:- Best trick to get original price from mrf dealers is, tht enquire abt the price from the dealer, if u feel its higher than what others get, come back home, open the mrf site, go to contact us or something like that, u can send a email to the mrf official from the site itself. Wait till u get a call from MRF confirming that what is the actual price and from which dealer u can get it. (this method have worked wonders for me)Last edited by UTKARSH STUNTY SHARMA; 12-19-2011, 02:22 PM.

Ride report : Mrf zapper S 100-80-17 on RTR 180
Hello everyone, first of all thanks to all of u who helped me in choosing tyres for my menace. Soon after the advices i went in for the MRF ZAPPER S 100-80-17 (the r15 v1's rear tyre). This is a ride report on the tyre.
Cornering ability- Every now and then i tend to scrap my footpegs with this tyre, it has immense cornering capability and has well lived up to my expectations in this field. 10/10
Dry Grip- One of the best tyres in dry grip, the bike is easily flickable in the traffic with this tyre , no slipping issues yet on insane riding . Touched speeds of 136 with this tyre so the top speed has not been reduced with this tyre. 8/10
Wet Grip- In this field it has impressed me too but a little less than the Zapper c 120 section. The tyre offers decent wet braking and grip,it could have more. 7/10
Hard Braking- The tyre has very good hard braking abilities too, much better than all tyres i have tested till now. I have forgotten the last time i fishtailed. 8/10
Off Roading- This is the only area where this tyre is the worst to be considered. Really pathetic for a little offroading too. U take it to a little muddy surface and start riding u will be fishtailing without any reasons.I did it once and was almost saved from a crash in mud. So for offroaders this tyre is a big no no. 2/10
Looks- Good looks from all angles, people say it looks a bit thin on rtr but i really didnt feel so. The grip look amazes people even at a single glance.
9/10
Pics are attached.

As it is always easy to repair a TL tyres puncture as compared to a tube type provided u have a shop or the kit with u. (note- i have ridden a apache 160 fi with same tyre for abt a month). Video of the tyre has been posted by me before 2 pages check it out.

1. Why is the zapper q costlier than zapper s?
2. from what you have said about the r15 tyres, the soft compound gives grip but lasts less km and gets punctured more and skid on roads with slimy mud, sand or dust. I dont like the tvs tyres for same reason of loosing grip on water or mud road, otherwise they are also okay.
3.what about ceat vertigo, how does it perform on highway, my ride is 90% highway so do you recommend those button tyres?
4.I shall try and go through others review of michilin pilot, I am not planning for m45 or siriac.
5. Do I need to change tyre in pair? Or is it fine to keep the tube type TvS in front and go for tubeless MRF for rear?
6. I currently put 28 in front and 34 rear. Do we need to change if I go for tubeless? Also arent tubeless tyre prone to more punctures? There are no short-cuts to any place worth going. So ride safe when you are treading uncharted roads.

Really no idea, but maybe that a softer compund would be cheaper than a good medium compund, plzz dont laugh if this seems funny .
2. from what you have said about the r15 tyres, the soft compound gives grip but lasts less km and gets punctured more and skid on roads with slimy mud, sand or dust. I dont like the tvs tyres for same reason of loosing grip on water or mud road, otherwise they are also okay.
U got it a lil wrong bro, first of all punctures can be on any tyre any time and there's no poin t using a harder compound to avoid puncture. And most importanly tvs tyres and mrf zapper s is not at all comparable, nd the mrf just slips on mud, not sand or water. Both dry and water grip is excellent and dry here means the sandy roads of india. The only thing it cant handle is mud mud and mud, in all other aspects its a charm, total vfm.
3.what about ceat vertigo, how does it perform on highway, my ride is 90% highway so do you recommend those button tyres?
Ceat tyres have some decent reviews and is cheapest of the lot. Here the same 100-90-17 is just rs 1680. See it really dosent matter that whether its higway cruising or city cruising, unless the tarmac is different. U just need good grip and braking. So ceat not recommended .
4.I shall try and go through others review of michilin pilot, I am not planning for m45 or siriac.
If u dont want to slip on muddy road then u need off road tyres, as michellin pilot sporty has this issue more than the zapper s.
5. Do I need to change tyre in pair? Or is it fine to keep the tube type TvS in front and go for tubeless MRF for rear?
Thats no issue , but its always recommended to change both the tyres at the same time, tubeless rear and tubetype front is not a issue though. Still its not a issue to change tyres one by one
6. I currently put 28 in front and 34 rear. Do we need to change if I go for tubeless? Also arent tubeless tyre prone to more punctures?
The air pressure is same unless and until u change to a bigger or smaller size, though front needs 24 and rear needs 32 with a pillion for the exact balance of inflation and grip. And secondly this is totally hypothetical that tubeless tyres get puncture more frequently, i dont believe in this as, my bike hass been running with tubeless tyres from day 1 and even after 9k kms there has not been even a single puncture in any of my 6 tubeless tyre used and being used.

1.You helped me a lot to make my job easier to decide on the tyres.
2.I wouldn't laugh at your answer.
3.I have decided not to buy michilin pilot sporty after reading a lot of reviews pg 430 onwards that the tyre gives superb grip but only lasts about 8k-9k km and gets lots of punctures.
I cant loose time gettting puncture fixed, it must be no hassle i.e push my bike on highway for long distance, frequently its irritation thus dropped the idea of those.
So now I have decided to enquire and find about:
Front: MRF Zapper FS 2.75-17 TT
Rear: MRF Zapper C 100/90-17 TT/TL
MRF Zapper S 100/80-17 TLThere are no short-cuts to any place worth going. So ride safe when you are treading uncharted roads.

For the front check out the zapper which comes in r15 v1's, it 80-90-17 and is a good tyre than the fs and also cheaper than it. Zapper fs is also no doubt a good tyre but that one is a level above. Again just my views

My questions:
Earlier in my earlier city they used to do compulsary heat punctures for two wheelers, only for cycles normal punctures were done, but in chennai no one does heat puncture for Two wheelers they just do normal punctures which literally did not work for me in long run, so ultimately i end up changing tube once it gets punctured as puncture cost itself comes to 50- 60 rs. Why they dont do heat punctures for two wheelers in chennai? or anywhere? whereas heat puncture for two wheeler tyres is really good.
I am very good rider and ride very slowly my bike super splendor 2006 model has stock tyres and in middle / centre part it become smooth i.e threading all gone and ODO clocked 35000+ kms, what is ideal tyre life for two wheelers??????????? Do i need to replace my bike tyres, what is approx cost of tyre replacing of HH Super SPlendor .K.Ravi
Do check out my custom painted tail light in my DIY thread ;) ...

Pretty good for straight line use. Most guys on the drag strip use these as they wear off slowly and those guys need to do a massive burnout every time before taking off. Should be good for sport touring purposes.
Where are you getting these in India? I ask as my friend has a Gt650R and we were talking about tire options for him and everything is quite atrociously priced at the moment.
