Hence, if you observe, the front and rear will always have reversed patterns.

        Let me illustrate with pics.

First 2 pics - Stock MRF Zappers on my bike. Both rear views. Notice that they are opposing in pattern. Front tyre has a 'V' pattern while the rear has an inverted 'V' pattern. (MRFs incidentally have a central groove for the front, no other change technically)

3rd pic - Michelin Pilot Sportys Top View. The first one(thinner one)is for the front while the other is for the rear. They are placed in correct direction, notice the opposing pattern here too.

4th pic - Shows the arrow markings. Notice that the first one is reversed cos it's marked for the rear but is gonna be used in the front.

          • Rear tyre for P150 dts-i

            Hello guys,
I had Zapper S on my 6-year old pulsar 150 UG2 since a couple of years, but it seems to have worn out pretty fast due to the terrible roads in Mumbai. I am looking to replace the tyre and have zeroed down on 2 possible options: MRF Meteor (apparently Meteor is now avaibale in 17" though the MRF website doesn't list it!) or Dunlop Monster, both 100/90-17", and I don't want to upsize the tyres.
Now I have chosen these 2 as I would be going for a new bike in less than a year from now and wouldn't want to spend more on it presently. My driving is mainly on the pot-holes ridden Mumbai roads, with a Mumbai-Pune trip once in 2 months.
So with these criteria in mind, along with the requirement of good wet grip, which tyre would best suit my needs. I'm planning to make the purchase in the next two days.
            Prices quoted (Mumbai):
Meteor w/o tube: 2300/- (MRF showroom)
Monster with tube: 1950/- incl fitting
            Please help!

Man, if you want the best, then you gotta be prepared to splurge. And you don't get any better than Pirelli Sport Demons, they'll run you 3.5-4K depending on which city you get them from for a 140/70 17 rear.

                  Oh, okay.
Personally, I would go with a Pirelli SD 100/80 17, but that would be an upsize and out of budget. Next best would be a Michelin Pilot Sporty, but even that is available in a 90/80 17 and 100/80 17 only.
But I hear good things about the Michelin M45s. Don't have any experience on them myself.

                  • Tyre Suggestion

I am getting my tyres changed:

                    From current TVS OEM to

                    Front - 90/90 17" IRC (Cost 1.5k)
                    Rear - 110/80 17" IRC (Cost 1.7k)

Just wanted to check if IRC is better than MRF.
The MRF option for Front is 90/90 Zapper FS and the Rear is Zapper C.

                    Please advice.

Mrf zappers are definitely better that irc in the wet .. Some 220 owners with IRCs are not very happy .. Dry grip is similar. But anything is better than your tvs tires nice decision to change

Now coming to my problem , Please bear with me my fellow bikers , I have a very detailed query :

Pulsar 220 dtsi - just touched 15k kms mark.
                      mrf zapper fs front 90/90
                      mrf zapper c rear 120/80
both tires now have tread depth BELOW 1.5mm. Checked using the coin technique. Front tire is more worn surprisingly. The grip level has been exponentially decreasing after 10k - 12k kms. Till then they were brilliant.
Ive been dreaming of changing the tires for a looong time and finally its time. My exams are going on so Ill change them next month.

I have only 1 bike ( my 220 ) which I use for commuting as well as touring.
I go for quite a few random roadtrips on weekends so yes , my tires do see a lot of the highway. I manage to do about 10k kms a year.

The stock zappers have got fantastic reviews. Even i found them quite grippy till about 10k kms but after that , its not been great. The front slides and the rear fish tails under moderately hard braking now. I use nitrogen and keep the pressure at 28(f) 32(r) at all times.

I've been pouring over reviews and been searching this thread and this is what i have understood so far :

Pirelli sport demon is really grippy but is expensive ( around 3.5 -3.8k rear , 3k front ) and lasts for a really less time ( avg about 8k kms ).

Michelin Sirac is great for the rear but bike will suffer acceleration loss. I even started a "help me" thread to see if I could try going in for a one size bigger rear sprocket to cancel out the torque loss. But I guess its too much trouble. Also , its not as good as the SD and vyde on tarmac. Great "on - off" road tire though.

People who have used zapper c feel that zapper vyde is better in all departments but again , it has a very short life ( I would prefer the zapper vyde over the SDs becuase mrf is more reasonably priced )

Michelin Pilot sporty seems to have quite a bit of fan following abroad for under 250cc bikes but in india , the sizes are not available.

I am now super confused as to what to do.

So Please suggest tires for my requirements :

                      1) I need them to be TUBELESS

                      2) Good general purpose tires. as in ,

I want good wet grip , dry grip , a little gravel on the road should be handled , and should be able to take corners nicely. Basically a sport touring tire.

                      3) Preferably stock size. Downsizing is not an option.

                      4) Dont mind spending upto 5k - 6k bucks for both tires together but I want to be able to do atleast 15k kms on them without a problem. ( Im a student and dad will kill me if i ask for another set of tires after just 10k kms ).

                      5) A tire which is eager to corner would be welcome. After all , the 220 is not great in the handling dept.

Please help me out guys ..

PS: I am aware that i need to sacrifice on a few parameters while gaining on other parameters. Which is why , a good "jack of all" tire is what Im looking for and which is probably why its really confusing to choose !

We cannot compare Pirelli with MRF in any means.

According to user feedback,Pirelli SD lasts for 15k.do you need stock sized tire or a little bigger?what about 120/80-17? You have CEAT Vertigo Rage & Vertigo Sport for rear.

Is CEAT TL or TT ?

yeah I know I cant compare pirelli and mrf .. said it as part of the conversation ..
And ceat tires are tubed arent they ?

My stock size is 120/80-17 rear and 90/90 front ..
If youre sure about the SDs lasting 15k kms then I might go in for 100/80 front and 130/70 rear !
But I need some Pirelli SD user to confirm the life of the tire in Indian conditions ..
As of now , i was kinda zeroing in on SD front and Sirac rear ..
Weird combo but it may produce some nice results !
