Youre right , the dtsi is taller geared and there is drop in acceleration but there is a corresponding increase in top speed. And this produces LESS strain on the engine theoritically .. But the tire wear depends more on usage pattern rather than on such a small difference in gearing.

And I got my chain and sprocket kit replaced recently ( yes it wore out prematurely too ). So what Im planning to do , go for SIRAC rear which makes the bike taller geared and change to the fi's rear sprocket to cancel out some of the taller gearing when i have the money ( student , so funds are only through pocket money. Besides , ive saved up for joels FFE ).

But if one is changing the rear tire to sirac purely for touring purposes , i would suggest that you stick to the stock sprocket. you wont feel the acceleration drop on the highway. That way , the slightly taller gearing will give you better speeds at a lesser rpm and reduce the strain on the engine on a long trip. Hence , in theory, a marginal increase in FE as well ..
you are true ! for outright touring purpose the sirac is must !

                  • Guys, is it safe to use Michelin Pilot Sporty 3.00 17" on the front? (which is a rear tyre, I was said that I can reverse the direction and use since both are of same tread pattern).
When everything comes ur way, u r in the wrong way ;)

                      • ^ am sorry dude, but how do you make out which is the front and which is the rear from the pic you sourced from Google, probably?

And look up point number 20 in the below link. (under markings). They say that tyres can be reversed and safely used provided they are of the same tread pattern!

For front tires, they will have a thread line through the center of the tire.

They also told that "Fitment of front tires on rear wheel is not permitted." .You can fix rear tire as front but may be there will be handling issues...Don't you have another options for front fitment?

But Pilot Sportys have the same tread for both front and rear, mate. No groove stuff. Kindly confirm.

Am aware of that. I just asked fitment of a rear one to the front. I wanted the same brand and the same tread pattern, so yeah, no other options mate!

Yeah, there is no grove but the front fitment groves looks smaller than the rear fitments, also there is difference in load figures.
