Gaurav, is there any shortage of M45 from the company?

              • MRF & R15 rear tyres

Had a long discussion with a couple of MRF representatives (Vipin G, sales person for MRF & Raj Kumar, dealer - Sri Krishna Tyres, Banaswadi 9886198357) at the MRF motorcross event that was held here in Blore today regarding the shortage of rear tyres for the R15.
                - Initially they said there is no shortage but occassionally it might not be available at some dealers. I told them I called their Main Office on Infantry Road & enquired about tyres & was told that it is not available with any of their dealers. These guys said its not possible that the head office people couldve told me that. Maybe I imagined the conversation with the MRF head office .....
                - They were telling me nobody has complained of lack of R15 rear tyres. I told them to go check xbhp and they said they know of the site (didnt claim to follow the site, big difference)
                - They said if any of us want a tyre all we need to do is call Mr Raj Kumar (9886198357) and pick up one at the actual price. Thats right, no black market business for them. I told them that I would put up the details here and they said no problem. Sri Krishna tyres has stock right now.
                - Said that I had already bought a 100/90/17 Zapper for Rs 1700 (with bill) from Naveen Tyres, Koramangala. They admitted that I had paid more than the actual price of the tyre
                - Cited the example of Mr Gaurav Lal, who ensures that all of us buy Michelin's at the right price in our cities and dont get cheated by dealers. I asked them whether they would do anything now that they have admitted that I paid more than the MRP. They started giving some gyan on how people make money in business blah blah. My mentioning customer satisfaction had no impact on their argument.
                - Told them that a large number of people are moving to Michelins (example the 220 brigade is getting Siracs) and was told that Michelins wont last on Indian roads (!)
                - Took them quite a while to admit that there is a gap in supply & demand for R15 tyres. Due to the labour problems they are not able to meet OEM demand for several vehicles which is why they are paying hefty penalties to manufacturers
                - They admitted that stocks of R15 rear tyres come in very small quantities but get lapped up usually on the same day itself. Often by other tyre dealers who sell them for a handsome commission
                - One gentleman passing by added that MRF dealers sell directly to the Yamaha showrooms in black ensuring that its a win win situation for them. Sucks to be a customer though. Orion Motors sells the tyres for Rs 2500 when the actual price is Rs 1500.

While the gentlemen were very polite and friendly, I found the company's attitude to be wrong wrt the overcharging of my Zapper. On one hand we have Mr Gaurav Lal & Michelin who are winning over xbhpians by ensuring we get a fair deal for good quality products & are happy customers at the end of the day while one the other hand we have MRF, who have dominated the market for so long that customer satisfaction is getting a back seat & they dont seem to be bothered about it. They were telling me, you paid 100 bucks extra, its ok, happens to all of us. I explained that I understand the dealer pulling a fast one on the customer, thats business but I was not happy with the fact that as company reps they know about it & dont seem to care when their competition does.

Personally, I would shift to the Pirelli that is now available or a Michelin 100/80/17 (if it gets launched) the next time I need to change my tyre.

                • It is that time of the year when I have to again replace the tyre.

Old ones the IRC (Which I had picked up from Metro) have totally worn out. So now wondering should I again go in for a normal one or the Low profiles AGAIN, someone please guide me where in Mumbai other than metro can I get tyres at a cheaper rate?

                        • Need a good Michelin tyre for ZMA and I need a tubeless.

Gaurav , any tyre shops in Pune where I can find. Also what model of tyre do you suggest for both front and rear (tubeless).

I will be changing my stock avenger 180 tyres which has run for around 35k kms in the last 5 years. I use my bike for daily commute to my office and on weekends for a slight offroading and long rides. I am from Mangalore which is a heavy rain zone being on the coastal belt. What tyres would be the best suited for my bike?

                            Front 90/90 - 17

                            Rear 130/90- 15

You can probably go for dual purpose tyres such as the Sirac. I am using it on my pulsar for sometime now and it has been great onroad and offroad .

You get the Sirac in sizes 120x90x18 afaik but check out the Michelin Website. YOu will get a list of Michelin dealers from the website itself.

Also, you can go for the Dunlop geo-cruiser. A friend has it and has had no problems in offroading on that tyre.

Another is the Ceat Vertigo which is a pure offroad tyre afaik.

Both these tyres should be available at bike tyre shops at Lamington Road/Milan Subway.

Then there are others but for Ladakh these tyres are well suited I feel
