I think the real issue the owner's will face would be with regard to the pirelli tyres. Seeing how the GT535 owner's had issues with PSDs, that were soft so had premature cuts etc and the availability issues at Svcs and the exorbitant prices it had, it would be interesting to see how RE can support for sportcomps and how it would date in Indian conditions. Also there are not many alternative in 18 inch size in market.

Guys, I got a call from my RE dealer that bike is ready for delivery. He said I can come down to the showroom make the payment and take the delivery. Isn’t the waiting period is of 6 months or so? I had booked GT650 but not sure if I wanna buy it since I haven’t ridden it. I even asked for the test ride to which they say GT650 test ride is not available. :-( I guess i am gonna stall till I am sure that this is the bike I want :-)

Ya. Quite a few people have already started getting delivery. You should be getting TD of GT650 now.

Meanwhile here is a video showing the kind of mileage one can expect from this engine

Royal Enfield Interceptor 650 mileage test, top speed and a lot more things you need to know about the motorcycle can be seen in our latest video

Royal Enfield swore that they got the issues sorted out and the Himalayan legacy won't repeat with these Twins. As with the Twins, Himalayan also has been advertised, marketed with those rock solid videos, history etc etc. But then once people started owning the bike, they realized that there were plethora of serious issues with the bike. The owners of the first batch of the bike felt like Guinea pigs. Not only with RE, but same with most of the bikes (I was a guinea pig for 200NS first batch).

My kind advise to anyone thinking to book to wait. Stall your bookings or deliveries till the ownership reviews come up. See what people say or you'll end up hating RE for the rest of the life.

            Once bitten twice shy!!
I understand your sentiments bhai and even I want to own something bigger and better and powerful than my humble 220.
Being cautious is a good sign and I second that.
But people will buy it no matter what happens. The same goes with Jawa too although it is a tried and tested engine from MoJo.
If after 2 years, the Twin owners are still praising, then others will automatically go to RE to book theirs.

The world ain't all sunshine and rainbows. It is a very mean and nasty place. It will beat you to your knees and keep you there permanently if you let it.

I guess we should rely on these people. They try it and we get the experience

Not everybody waits for the owners reviews and other things to stabilise before buying a bike, some just want their hands on the new bikes and are mentally prepared to deal with any issues that can crop up. Some may even know what they are getting and are fine with it because this is just among other bikes in their stable

Yes it is a good idea to wait. But expect the prices to increase soon. Also I don't know if the 650 it's BS6 ready. Else come 2020 expect increases for this also.

Those questions have already been answered by RE while at the launch.

                    * Both Interceptor and Continental GT are BS6 ready. Adding to this, they've announced that they are working towards making the Himalayan BS6 complaint and rumors are that there is a new engine coming up for the Himalayan.

                    * RE said that the current prices of the twins are introductory. Expect an increase in price once the bikes are on the roads and start to penetrate slowly in the market. Increase might not be drastic but slowly and steadily there will be a considerable increase when compared with the current price.

So that means the 650 engine can be expected to do duty on the BS6 Himalayan ? If so it will surely be more expensive than the twins.

Also, is it just me or anyone else also feels the overall bike looks small compared to the engine size. I mean look at a bonnie, it has a personality. Even bigger engine I understand. But the twins, though with bigger engine still has a similar size profile as of the Gt535.

That does not take away the fact that it has great performance + aggressive pricing for now.

What a way to start your Sunday morning by getting invited to test ride two new motorcycles. Got 8 kms each on both the 650 twins on one of my favourite highway roads near my home in Chennai.

Never believed that I would get impressed by a 'modern' Royal Enfield ever in my lifetime. The new 650 Twins shatter all those notions. RE has done a OnePlus to the entry Triumph Bonneville range.

The Rumble, the smooth linear throttle and the sharp bite of the brakes, what a revelation! The Twins hit almost 80kph in 1st gear. Cruises gently at 100kph without any buzz and if your in the mood hits close to 180kph in 6th gear before the rev limiter kicks in. Truly uncharacteristic for an Enfield.

The suspension is stiff which gives good handling and feedback(better in the GT) yet feels cushy for my weight. The weave which most online media reviewers spoke about is only felt at very high cornering speeds and lean angles. This is mainly due to the 18" wheels(and less wide tyre) is what I feel.

The Interceptor is like a 'chilled beer', with that laidback riding stance. Gives you a commanding feel on the road. You just want to cruise all day long on this one with that sweet rumbling exhaust as BGM.

The Continental GT 650 makes you ONE with the motorcycle, with its committed riding stance and rear set foot pegs. The riding position was less aggressive than the CBR250R. You just wanna find gaps and accelerate to the cornering limits in this one. Obviously it had less wind blast, but without a proper fairing the wind gets you finally at the top end.

After 2 hours of constantly using the motorcycles by more than 15 riders, the heat felt from the engines was significantly less than than the tandoori heat you get in Harleys and Bonnevilles in city riding.

Yes, they could've brought in alloy wheels. Yes they could've given a gear indicator. Yes, they could've powder coated certain sections of the exhaust pipe coming from the cylinder head to avoid rust. But these all diminish when you twist the throttle and hear that soul satisfying rumble!

In my humble opinion RE has made the pricing and the performance available in a very nice goldilocks zone of below ₹3lakhs. Makes all first time superbike owerneship experiences below ₹11lakhs unnecessary. It has the fun, the character and personality to keep you engaged for a long time.

These 650 twins are THE motorcycles to get in India for the time being.

                            Cheers!
