Yesterday I received a mail from dealership about price list and accessories, all customers were in Cc. I replied back asking why RE is making fake promises and creating unnecessary demand, why was it not informed in launch date or in upcoming weeks. Today morning I received call from the dealership, they said they are equally angry on what Royal Enfield is doing and they accepted that they informed for those who book in first 2 days and rider mania will get deliveries in Jan end, dealership said they are speaking to RE marketing people and expressing customers displeasure. Dealer requested me not to increase conversation in that thread, he said he will update the best the company tells them .

I Asked the below questions and also mailed Royal enfield, if interested you can also do the same.

Why was it not informed on the launch date that Ravishing Red and Baker Express takes 5 months to delivery ?

During the launch it was said delivery starts for all bikes on January 3rd week ?,why was that said ?

One more promise was to deliver the bookings that was done on first 2 days by January 3rd week ? ---> Even the tweets in Sidharth lal's twitter page announces deliveries starts in January.

I know most of them would have booked Custom color, i think royal enfield is planning to send the custom color for export and sell the basic colors to indian customers for now, as they seemed to be less important to them right now.

I wont believe a corporate like Royal enfield did not plan or forgot to inform this during the launch, its clear strategy to attract bookings and create demand. They are concentrating now in exporting the models so they are less concerned about the local deliveries that is the truth.

For a long time they messed with those who are willing to buy a bike for a lakh, now they are starting to mess with the customers who are willing to buy a bike for 3 lakhs. Lets see how they react.

these re/dealers (or for that matter most companies) have no spine.. they will lie about to get their bookings and delay deliveries. even if you put in a complaint via writing, they will only call and give you some bull** story and try to convince you.. seldom will they own up in writing.
they just don't seem to have the capacity to roll out so many bikes across the world/India. They should've been more straightforward during the launch. and i don't think any so called automotive journalist or portal asked RE tough question about the launch/availability/delays.. they just want to be in their good books
iirc re claimed they have around 800 dealers in India.. let's assume each dealer has received 10 bookings.. now that is a total of 8000 bikes excluding exports. does RE have the capacity to produce these numbers..?

I have a feeling the demand for the twins might taper off (compared to the initial bookings/sales) after around a year.

        Well Said.

Back in 2014 they had a production capacity of 1 lakh vehicles per year in their Oragadam plant, RE has two plants in chennai. They are very much capable of producing 8000 bikes if they have planned for it in the months of November, december and January, side by side manufacturing the other classics and thunderbird. I assume the export numbers would have not been above 1000, as there wont be such a demand overseas considering the ton of options for customers there. This is their clear strategy to satisfy the Export dealerships to earn that extra buck and leave the indian customers down. If a company gives such a experience to customers before they even buy the bike, then how will they deal with after-sales service & support, i doubt on them. They have not changed, they are still that same company by Ethos are concerned.

I took both the Interceptor and the GT on short test runs yesterday evening. Few observations:

Riding Ergonomics - GT is much more comfortable due to better riding triangle. On the GT, when placing both feet on the ground, the foot pegs don't touch/pinch your calves. The Interceptor necessitates a wider stance when stopping to avoid the foot pegs. While the bikes look big, they don't feel as big when you're on top, which is a good thing. The GT windshield is very narrow. You'll need to buy a wider one, for it to be any real use.

Handling - Exceptionally long wheelbase. Slow traffic handling wasn't very pleasing. But, I can expect the bike to be pretty enjoyable on traffic-free straights. Didn't get an opportunity to try at higher speeds.

Power Delivery - A lot of hesitation. Doesn't at all feel like a 650, at least not in traffic. the hesitation meant that you can't shoot into that gap that just opened up, and is now gone... if you know what I mean.

Vibes - Incredibly smooth. I couldn't believe this is an Enfield. This, to me, is the most attractive thing about this motorcycle. I couldn't take it on a longer ride, but I do hope that it gives a little bit of roughness at higher speeds.

Design - The basic design of both bikes is beautiful, but the upswept, long tail pipes confuse me a wee bit. On the GT though, the design still integrates better, but not on the Interceptor, to my eyes. Also, the tail pipes flare out a lot at the rear; not too sure I like that - somewhat like a toad.

Ride quality - Quite nice. GT is a bit stiffer than Interceptor and I liked it more.

Heat - The inner thigh and calf is VERY near to the Engine. I could feel the heat in close proximity on both bikes. BTW I was wearing Riding Jeans, which work well for my KTM.

            In summary-
Fit and finish/quality wise, both bikes don't seem to be typical RE's - which is a good thing.
They ARE giving a lot of 'motorcycle', for South of 4 lakhs on road - again great.
If I decide to pick another bike (head office approval pending), I might just pick the GT, but then again the z650 at 5.6 on road isn't all that far away.

But how is it compared to the directly priced rival the Duke 390??
Which do you think is better to own??
Built like a bike, goes like a rocket--KTM DUKE 390

                  Both!

On a more serious note -
If you are touring more, I might veer towards the RE GT. But, nothing beats the KTM 390 twins for fast, slick city runs and the occasional touring.

I have strong feeling that they will also cunningly increase the price even before the 1st bikes get delivered, from new year or start of new financial year, sighting some cost increase of manufacturing of parts or dollar value etc etc reasons.

Their press statement would go like this "In a effort to give the best quality bikes to people we at RE we had increase the cost of bike by ₹1x,xxx for the rise in input cost, we always strive to give the best to our customers etc etc blah blah"

My guess only the people who booked in the beginning will be able to get the bike at current price, rest will be at new price.

i wouldn't be surprised if that happened.

but i think they will be careful with the first batch (and sid lal had said they have tried hard to keep it under 3L otr even in states were taxes were pushing it past 3L), most probably the prices will increase in the later half of 2019. the price going up is a given.

a very very tempting bike for a retro sucker like me.

                        GT: 44.36HP @ 6840rpm
                        INT : 42.55HP @ 6820rpm
Aren't they the same engine with the same tune?

The revs and timing of gear change could've been very slightly different by the tester. But I reckon only the Interceptor Dyno figures seems to be more believable.

I have booked my Interceptor (Orange) last week from Lamba Enterprises in Delhi.

Just wanted to check if baker express/ravishing red is available with any dealer in NCR?

I wish to change my color option to custom one but not before i actually see it.

I have booked the Baker express, but unfortunately no dealership has those custom or the chrome variants of the Interceptor on display. All of them have the standard colours only - Orange, Black or Silver on display.
